According to foreign media, the Russian government recently proposed to keep the export quota of scrap steel for another six months until June 30, 2023.

It is reported that the Russian government pointed out in the official statement after the end of the working group meeting on December 2 that scrap steel exported in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is not subject to quota restrictions.

According to the proposal of the Russian government, the export quota of scrap steel from January 1 to June 30, 2023 will be significantly reduced to 600000 tons (540000 tons from June 1, 2022 to July 31, 2022, 1.35 million tons from August 1 to December 31, 2022). In addition, the export tariff is 5 euros/ton (about 5.25 dollars/ton) within the quota limit, and 290 euros/ton (about 304 dollars/ton) outside the limit. Foreign media said that scrap exporters in Russia can only export to regions outside the Eurasian Economic Union through certain designated border ports.

The Russian government said that in the difficult period when producers are facing sanctions, the measures are aimed at providing Russian steel manufacturers with sufficient raw materials at economically feasible prices. (Tian Chenyang)
